Chestnuthill Township Emergency Services

In case of Emergency Dial - 911

West End Community Ambulance

West End Community Ambulance was established in 1955.  For decades West End Community Ambulance prided itself as being one of the only EMS organizations fully staffed by volunteers.  As the area continued to grow the members of West End Community Ambulance saw a need for an advanced life support unit dedicated to the residents and visitors of the west end.  In 1998, with the help of West End Community Ambulance, West End Advanced Life Support was formed.  For ten years West End ALS worked in conjunction with West End Community Ambulance to provide quality emergency care.  In 2007 the Board of Directors of both organizations, in working towards the future, believed that the area would best be served if both companies joined forces.

In October 2008 West End Advanced Life Support merged with West End Community Ambulance.  With a dedicated group of volunteers and career staff West End Community Ambulance continues to provide the best in emergency care to the residents and visitors of the West End of Monroe County.
West End Community Ambulance provides Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to Chestnuthill Township and the surrounding areas.  We have two stations; Basic Life Support located in Effort and Advanced Life Support located in Saylorsburg.  West End Community Ambulance responds to roughly 3800 calls per year. As we are no longer solely a volunteer organization, we rely on third-party billing, subscription fees, donations and various fund raising events as a means to insure that our personnel are properly trained, our equipment is state of the art and that we are there when you need us.

We have two volunteer fire companies the West End Fire Company and Sun Valley, with three fire station locations the West End at Route 715 in Brodheadsville and Route 115 at Mount Effort, and in Sun Valley on Juniper Road.

The West End Fire Company was chartered in 1932 and has about 60 active fire fighters. The company covers all of Chestnuthill Township and provides mutual aid to surrounding municipalities. Operating out of two stations, the company is equipped with eight pieces of apparatus including two class “A” pumpers, a heavy rescue, a tanker, a light rescue/mini-pumper, a Special Operations unit and two brush trucks. A full complement of Hurst® Jaws of Life® hydraulic rescue tools is operated by the company as well as onboard foam capability. The company also maintains its original piece of apparatus, a 1932 Buffalo 750 GPM pumper. Services provided by the company include fire suppression, all types of rescue, hazardous materials response, medical response, and public fire prevention education. The company averages between 1000 and 1200 calls per year and members spend an average of 3,500 personnel hours per year in training activities. They are always in need of volunteers for firefighting, associate members and Ladies Auxiliary. Should anyone be interested in joining the fire company, need general fire information, or wish to rent the fire hall,

please call 570-992-4121.

Training Drills are held the 1st, 3rd, 4th (and 5th when applicable) Tuesdays of each month.

COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAMS,

ORGANIZATION AND ON-SCENE MANAGEMENT

The CERT program is a community-based program targeted at community residents. This program is designed to teach neighborhood volunteers safety measures and basic emergency skills for use during crisis situations.

The CERT organizational structure was developed because there is a need to provide:

  • Effective communication among agency personnel

  • A well-defined management structure

  • Accountability

This structure also affords the opportunity to use common terminology among the agencies, as well as, the consolidation of various action plans that coordinate strategic goals, tactical objectives, and support activities.
