We have two volunteer fire companies the West End Fire Company and Sun Valley, with three fire station locations the West End at Route 715 in Brodheadsville and Route 115 at Mount Effort, and in Sun Valley on Juniper Road.
The West End Fire Company was chartered in 1932 and has about 60 active fire fighters. The company covers all of Chestnuthill Township and provides mutual aid to surrounding municipalities. Operating out of two stations, the company is equipped with eight pieces of apparatus including two class “A” pumpers, a heavy rescue, a tanker, a light rescue/mini-pumper, a Special Operations unit and two brush trucks. A full complement of Hurst® Jaws of Life® hydraulic rescue tools is operated by the company as well as onboard foam capability. The company also maintains its original piece of apparatus, a 1932 Buffalo 750 GPM pumper. Services provided by the company include fire suppression, all types of rescue, hazardous materials response, medical response, and public fire prevention education. The company averages between 1000 and 1200 calls per year and members spend an average of 3,500 personnel hours per year in training activities. They are always in need of volunteers for firefighting, associate members and Ladies Auxiliary. Should anyone be interested in joining the fire company, need general fire information, or wish to rent the fire hall, please call 570-992-4121.
Training Drills are held the 1st, 3rd, 4th (and 5th when applicable) Tuesdays of each month.
